Well, it’s been a very hectic few weeks for us, both in the studio and out and about with PR and commercial photography, so I’ve not had many spare minutes for blogging or social media updates – we’ve been too busy keeping our clients happy!

So, I’ve put together a little round-up of the last week’s activities. In the studio, I’ve been busy editing shoots, showing people their images and sending off orders for printing and framing – including three framed pictures of labradoodle Louis. He has just had the second of three pet photography photoshoots with us as a record of his growth from a small puppy.

And he wasn’t the only adorable pooch to be in front of our cameras recently, little Ned and his mummy/owner Sam had been in a couple of weeks back for a birthday photoshoot for Sam. She came in this week to view her pictures and choose her prints, which she was really happy with.

In between all of that, it is a really busy time of year for passport photos. We are getting lots of people asking us for passport photos of babies, as it is so much easier than trying to squeeze into a booth. And at £7.50, it is an ideal, hassle-free solution for parents booking holidays – even if I am slightly jealous after hearing all their exciting plans!

I also uploaded some family portrait photography to the client page of our website, and received a lovely email back.”Thank you so much, they really are amazing! I know my sister is going to be spoilt for choice. Thank you again, they had so much fun on the day and the photos are perfect!”

On the PR photography front, Steve has been driving all over the country on various shoots. He photographed some birds of prey which were on display at the opening of a new show-home in Leicestershire, before heading to Milton Keynes for some corporate headshot portraits. Also in his diary this week was the start of building work on a brand new nursery in Telford, a lady off on a charity walk in Shrewsbury, and some artificial grass in Staffordshire.

Steve was also commissioned to provide photography for a case study in Shepshed, Nottingham conference photography and awards night photography in the West Midlands. And he managed to squeeze in photography of the managing director of Ford UK on a visit to Nottingham and an artist visiting a school in Leicestershire.

Coming up this weekend and next week, we’re photographing a wedding vow renewal ceremony and reception tomorrow, followed by family portrait photography appointments in the studio on Sunday. Steve will be continuing his photography tour of Britain with bookings in Cumbria, Essex and Birmingham!

MAKING PLANS!

Wedding planner Derbyshire

If you keep being distracted by a gorgeous new sparkling ring on your left hand, then CONGRATULATIONS!

Lots of couples get engaged over Christmas, New Year and, of course, Valentine’s Day. If you’re one of those people, look no further for some great tips and advice on planning your wedding. You may have never planned a wedding before – or even been to very many. Our wedding photographers have been to heaps of weddings and no two are ever the same. We work with a great cross-section of wedding suppliers in Derbyshire and can point you in the direction of many talented wedding experts.

Today, wedding planner Leah Lyons, from Your Wedding Angel, takes you through the first steps as a newly engaged couple.

“As a professional wedding planner, I get to see so many different couples at different stages.

If you can try and stick to even just a few of these points, or revisit them if you have already started planning, you will have a wedding that truly represents you both and a day to remember.

You have just got engaged – STOP take it all in, sit back and enjoy being engaged. So many couples (me included) get engaged and the very next day will go straight to the wedding magazine section or start googling endless wedding ideas, venues, dresses etc. Being engaged is such a precious time and for most couples is only for a short period of  time. So take at least two to six months to just enjoy this lovely time.

Getting started – it is so easy  to jump on the wedding bandwagon. My advice is to have a evening for maybe just the two of you orinvite close friends and family and really discuss your personalities and the things that are important to you as individuals and as a couple. This will give you a great focus for your wedding. Every couple of months look back on your notes and make sure that you are not veering off from this, which is so easily done.

Venues – choosing your dream ceremony and reception venue should be the first thing on your list. Once you have done this, you can go on to do all the other exciting jobs with the venue always in your mind.

Look and feel – now you have chosen your venue and have set a date you can decide on the look and feel of your wedding day. May be you want a particular colour in your wedding or, like so many brides now, you may want lots of colours. Winter weddings to summer weddings to marquee DIY weddings to vintage and 50s or 60s inspired weddings. The options are endless.

Dress – you have the venue , now the bride-to-be can choose the all-important dress. Visit no more than three bridal shops and always take someone that you trust with you. Remember to think about the feel of your venue when choosing your dress. Go with an open mind.

Suppliers – florists, stationery, entertainment for ceremony and venue, transport, food and drink, wedding photographer and videographer, hair and make-up, bridesmaids and groomsmen’s attire. Make sure you shop around and choose a supplier that you feel comfortable with. Referrals, testimonials and asking to see actual work of the supplier is a great way to ensure this. Don’t be scared to ask any questions that you may have and get a clear quote before proceeding.

Details – my favourite bit, you have all the main things in place, now it’s time to get creative and imaginative. Bringing your venue to life with maybe hanging lanterns or pom-poms or maybe adding that extra bit of sparkle to your tables. Maybe you want to personalize everyone’s favours or you want the fun of a photo booth or a sweetie table. Bring in elements of you and your life together so far, this is always a nice touch.

On the day co-ordination – a wedding planner to co-ordinate your day and take over  your last-minute plans two weeks before is a great little extra. You have so tirelessly planned your perfect day and want to see it look and feel just like you visualise it. A planner works for you and pays great attention to the couple’s needs and wants so that you can relax leading up to and on your very special day.

The day – My most important bit of advice. Sit back and enjoy your special day and remember why you are both there. Everything will fall into place. To take 10 to 20 minutes after the ceremony, just the two of you, is a tip I give to all my couples, you are going to be surrounded by happy family and friends who will all want a piece of you, so taking this special time will be memorable for you both.”

INSIDE OUT

October 29th, 2012 by

Studio portraits and photography on location

The days of brown speckled backgrounds in photography are long gone, thank goodness! The big decision in portrait photography now is whether to go for studio portraits with a plain background or portraits on location.

At The Studio, most of our portraits are done inside on a background with studio lighting. We have a white background roll and a black one, which looks fabulous in black and white images. We also go out on location if that’s what a client would like. There are pros and cons for both styles of work, but in the end it comes down to personal preference.

One of the advantages of studio portraits is that it is not weather-dependent. It could be torrential rain and a howling gale outside, but the studio is always warm and dry, which is a bonus in the run-up to Christmas, which is a busy time of year. It may seem intimidating walking onto a background paper to face the camera, but we’re experts at putting people at ease and helping them to relax and be themselves. There is plenty of time for little ones to settle in and make themselves at home – lots of children end up loving all the attention and enjoy performing for the camera!

If you can’t decide what to wear, or want to change outfits, that’s no problem in the studio. You can also bring toys and props to personalise your portraits as much as you like.  Our studio portraits have a very fresh, clean contemporary look to them and a timeless quality that won’t age, even as your children grow. Our mounted prints start at £20, which makes them great presents too.

Portraits on location can be great too, though. It just depends on what you’re after. We are happy to arrange shoots on location, either at your home or other suitable venues in Derbyshire, such as a park or in the countryside.

Get in touch to discuss your requirements and we’ll go from there!

PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY

Portrait photographers Derby

The Studio offers fresh, modern family portrait photography in Derby at really great prices.

We run a small photography studio in Mickleover, Derby, where we create gorgeous, timeless photography of babies, children, families, couples as well as pet photography and maternity pictures.

We know that being in front of the camera can be daunting for children and adults alike, so our first priority is to put people at ease. We have children ourselves, so we have a few tricks up our sleeve for settling in the little ones and helping the whole family to relax and be themselves to enable us to capture some amazing shots.

A family photoshoot at our Vicarage Road studio is just £20, and this price includes a 5×7 print of your choice, in either colour or black and white, which comes beautifully mounted ready to frame. After your sitting, we’ll make an appointment for you to come back to view your portraits on our big screen and choose your free print. There is no pressure to buy more, but if you do want extra prints, prices start at £20 for a mounted 5×7, framed prints start at £35 and canvas and solid block prints start at £95. If you spend £250 or more on prints, frames, canvas or block prints, a CD of images, with a copyright licence for personal use, is available to purchase. We do not supply unmounted prints or sizes smaller than 5×7.

We have a wide selection of frame profiles from which to choose, and all of our frames, from the smallest to the largest, are individually made by hand to bespoke sizes.

Gift vouchers are available in multiples of £10, which make the perfect present for any age, from teenagers to families.

We are normally at The Studio from 9.30am until 3pm Tuesday to Friday, but we do appointments outside of these hours, including Saturdays and Sundays. We also go out on location, so it’s always best to give us a quick call first if you are planning to pop in. We also provide a passport photo service, with pictures ready to collect in 3-4 days.

If we’re out when you call, or busy with clients, please leave us a message or send us an email and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible. If you’re looking for a family portrait photoshoot in Derby, take a look at our website for more examples of our work and get in touch to book.

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

Derby wedding photographers

If you’re planning a wedding, congratulations!

When you’re getting married, the ‘to-do’ list can sometimes seem overwhelming – finding the perfect wedding venue and choosing an amazing wedding dress are just the beginning. One big thing to tick off the list early in the planning stages is finding a wedding photographer that you feel comfortable with.

The Studio’s professional wedding photographers are based in Mickleover in Derby, but cover weddings in Derbyshire, the East Midlands and nationwide. We have two full-time photographers, but also call on the services of our small group of carefully selected, regular freelance professional photographers. All our photographers earn a living from photography, none is a keen amateur or part-time. You will always know who your wedding photographer will be and be able to meet them before your wedding day and see examples of their own work.

All of The Studio’s wedding photographers are fully trained and qualified as press photographers, which gives them the invaluable ability to adapt and cover an, at times, fast-moving and spontaneous situation – such as unexpected confetti-throwing! This experience means that we can really tell the story of your wedding day in pictures, covering every aspect in a documentary style.

Every wedding day is unique, and our photographers aim to reflect your own individual style in the images. When you book your wedding photography with us, we ask for a deposit of £120, which is one hour’s photography. You are more than welcome to get in touch as many times as you wish before the wedding day to talk through timings, planning and also pick our brains on fabulous Derbyshire wedding suppliers we have worked with previously.

Closer to the the big day, we will arrange an appointment with you to go through your final timings for the day and ask you to put together a list of essential group shots that you would like. This is when you pay your final balance.

On your wedding day itself, our photographers will be on time, dressed smartly and know how to get the best pictures without being a nuisance. We will melt into the background when necessary and step forward to organise groups in a polite and friendly manner, without barking orders, but still getting the official shots done quickly and efficiently.

Our wedding photography style is natural and relaxed, but also fun and tailored to you, so that your personality can really shine through in the images.

After your wedding, we will upload a preview of your pictures to our Facebook page followed by adding all of your individually edited pictures to a password-protected gallery on our website for you to share with your guests. You will also receive a disc containing your high-resolution images, with a copyright licence for personal use, so you can have them printed however you wish.

Couples tend to book their wedding photography quite early on in the wedding-planning process, so it’s always best to get in touch sooner rather than later – especially for popular weekends. However, there are sometimes a couple of late-availablility gaps in the diary as we are lucky enough to have more than one wedding photographer working for us. We are able to provide photography for weddings of all sizes, although we ask for a minimum booking of six hours for Saturdays from March to September.

You can find examples of our wedding photography in Derbyshire and beyond on our website galleries. Please feel free to get in touch with any questions and to check availability for your wedding date. And, above all, enjoy your special day!
